WVRamp is now TheDiggerer.com!
After serving WVa for 124 years we are revamping our image and building a new site - and getting a new name!
Many years ago my Great Grandfather, Cecil Coodle, had a dream.
While digging in the coal mines in 1888 he had a vision of a revolutionary new way of getting news in WV. Unfortunately he was not able to launch his "Cobweb Site" as he called it (because, he thought, cobwebs always held interesting items), since the Internet had not been invented yet! However, grandpa was determined to let nothing stand in the way of his dream.
Sitting at his kitchen table with his best friend, Kerwin Summerville, they began publishing The West Virginia Ramp on the only materials they had available... dirty oil rags. Believe it or not, THAT is where newspapers began to be called, "RAGS". In fact, his newspaper was first called, "The West Virginia Rag". He later adopted the name, "The West Virginia Ramp" since our state's unique vegetable stinks... like much of the news he was reporting.
The West Virginia Ramp has gone from rags, to paper, back to rags and then paper again. It was published a short while on tree bark during the depression, then back to paper and NOW... the Internet! His dream had finally come true! Great Grandpa Cecil was such a visionary.
Guarding the integrity of such a valued West Virginia tradition is my task. After a lot of soul searching (and running it by my kid's soccer team), I have chosen to rename this news site in memory of my great grandfather: TheDiggerer.com - since he dug TWICE.. once for coal AND later for news.
Please join me as we move into the next chapter of my great grandfather's legacy.
