Today Chuck Yeager Flies Back Into History

CHARLESTON- It was the stuff of Urban Legends.  Old-timers spin the yarn that on a bright sunny October day waaaaaay back in 1948, Air Force Test Pilot Chuck Yeager zipped his F-80 Jet down the Kanawha River and famously flew under the South Side Bridge.  Nothing was ever said on the radio, and there were no photos taken to prove the story true.  But truth is always more interesting than fiction -- and Chuck Yeager is more interesting than either, because it really DID happen [LINK]!  And today, he's planning a historic reenactment down the Kanawha River to prove it.

Dear Golden Dome,

My neighbors and myself are in mortal danger because our town is between a busy railroad track and the river.  If a train derails again (this happens about every three years) we will be trapped, unable to get to safety.  There is an underground tunnel a mile away, but it's too small for trucks and emergency vehicles.

Mothman: World-Renowned WV Mystery

The peaceful community of Point Pleasant, West Virginia was gripped in a vice of ever-increasing terror for over one year, beginning in November 1966 and reaching a horrible climax on December 15, 1967, with the collapse of the Silver Bridge during rush hour traffic, plunging 46 innocent Christmas shoppers to their deaths in the icy Ohio River. Events leading up to the tragedy in the months beforehand caused many people to blame “The Mothman”, a mysterious creature that had begun its reign of fear by first appearing to two young married couples outside the abandoned WWII TNT factory on the outskirts of town.
