After years of fighting with the Internal Revenue Serivce (IRS), Vonn decided requishing the metals was a better option than paying the approximately $9,000 taxes per medal [LINK].
"We were heartbroken," said Vonn's mother, "But she just couldn't afford to pay the taxes. She was lucky to get to the competitions with sponsorships."
The International Olympic Committee announced today that it has taken back Vonn's medals previously awarded to American skier Lindsey Vonn and given her most recent Gold Medal to U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama.
Olympic officials said the medals probably should have gone to Obama in the first place since Vonn didn't win them on her own and as one official stated, "No one has ever gone downhill faster than he has."
