When told about the error, Biden responded, "When did West Virginia become a state? I am the vice president, why wasn't I informed of this." Later Biden told CNN, "It was a honest mistake, I am very tired as I have been working very hard. I certainly know each and everyone of our 52 states."
Sen. Mike Arnold (R) had this to say, "How can they serve West Virginia's best interest when they do not even know we exist. There are Californians and New Yorkers coming out with polls and tests that say West Virginians are fat and ignorant and most of the people from those states do not even realize that we are a state. They thing we are the western part of Virginia. So who are the ignorant fools?"
Biden's tour continues on Thursday with stops in Kentucky and Ohio. The White House plans to send Biden back to more cities in West Virginia soon to increase his awareness of West Virginia. They also plan for him to take a civics class so he can learn all of the 50 states.
