Having awoken to the bizarrely tinged skies talk of chemical spills and coal ash clouds have been bantied around, while some even connected the unusual scenes to Senator Joe Manchin's recent comments about the next Presidential Election.
Last week, Senator Joe Manchin announced he was unsure whether he'll vote for his party's leader, President Barack Obama, or the likely Republican nominee Mitt Romney. This statement sent shockwaves throughout the halls of Washington, the blogisphere and if some are to be believed - the heavens.
As suggestions of evacuations emerged and thousands of nervy phone calls reached the Capitol's phone lines, Lawmakers are telling everyone not to panic - but secretly they are. Speaking 'off-the-record', Senator C. U. Mulus told TheDiggerer.com, "I'm scared out of my wits! I looked up and saw Robert C Byrd. I know everyone thinks they see shapes in clouds, elephants, bunny rabbits, Jesus, but this is the first time I've ever seen a senator's face. Other's have seen it, too."
He was right, #byrdcloud was one of the recent trending items on Twitter, "Look! Up in the sky! It's the Byrdman!", "Does anybody else see Byrd?", " "It's him! It has a white pointy hat!"
As people around Charleston gawked at what they said was the Senator's face, talk drifted to theries of why he might be glowering over the Capitol.
"Robert C Byrd wasn't called the conscience of the Senate for nothing," Chuck Upton said while sky gazing, "Joe Manchin should have known he'd have Byrd rolling in his grave - and apparently filling the skies. Manchin is no Democrat if he thinks he has free will. I understand when he has to sound like a freaking Republican to get elected. But by jingle, his votes belong to the Democrat Party! Byrd is unhappy and letting us know it!"
The EPA has weighed in on the matter with a press release. "We believe the 'Byrd-Cloud' is proof that all mining must be stopped immediately. If coal mining continues unabated, we're going to see more faces in clouds over West Virginia than on Facebook."
