At the family picnic at Summersville Lake on her birthday Alexis found her new best friend that lives happily in a shoebox, and Missy is its name. Missy is a Misquito.
Alexis couldn't be happier. "My sister wishes Edward from Twilight was her boyfriend - well, my pet is a REAL blood sucker not some fake, glittery vampire, yuck!"
Missy was not immediately accepted by everyone in Alexis's family. Amy, her mother, did not approve at all. "It gives me the creeps!" She says with a shudder, "It's an ugly, nasty bug!"
However, Roger Daily approves. "I was surprised, but since I wouldn't let her have a dog I didn't want to say no, again. Besides, mosquitos don't take up space or eat much and they don't even leave 'surprises' anywhere. There's no poo to clean up! Plus, Alexis and Missy struck up an instant friendship. Missy clings to Alexis wherever she goes."
Her father's blessing wasn't enough at school. When Alexis showed up with Missy and her shoebox for Show and Tell, she was sent home. Her teacher, Angie Davis, said, "Missy bit two students. I feel it is an inappropriate pet for a child."
The bad news didn't end with school. The Daily's were informed by their landlord that Missy was not welcome at London Square Apartments. The landlord, Ralph Riggio, said, "I can't have the whole building catch West Nile Disease or Malaria."
Roger is backing Alexis and Missy and the family is looking for a new home. Roger Daily said, "I feel Missy is being discrminated against because she and her pet are different. I am teaching Alexis to stand up for what she thinks is right."
The Davis family are looking for an attorney to represent their case. If you know an attorney who is interested in blood-sucking we will forward your information to the family.
