When asked why he chose such an outlandish role, Depp probably said, "Tim Burton did BATMAN! I mean, how could I say no! The man has worked with Peewee Herman! And when he put white makeup on Jack Nicholson, he made movie magic!"
Details on the movie are sketchy, but from my understanding Depp will play a man who is larger than life yet damaged in some way. It will be a 'fish out of water' story where others will be aware that he doesn't 'belong' somehow. The plot will take several turns and end with some understanding of who he is and coming to grips with that reality - or not.
The rest of the cast seem strong - there is a strong female co-star and several great supporting actors. The music will be haunting at times, but always fun - the kind of music that will make you want to buy the record.
Its' been a few years since 21 Jump Street - and since they made that sequel, I guess Johnny felt he had to do SOMETHING to make his mark in Hollywood again. Let's wish him luck with this one!
