Guyandotte resident Scott Gad said, "It's about time we quit carrying Huntington. Huntington residents are fishing out of potholes while we are cruising around comfortably on newly paved streets. They are bankrupt and we are prospering. My neighbors and I are tired of being associated with them. They are like the ne'er-do-well brother in every family that won't work and makes the whole family look bad."
Rick Simmons was elected mayor in a landslide victory and threw one of his famous hog roasts to celebrate. Guyandotte has become known nationally for Swinefest, an annual celebration in Guyandotte.

Simmons beamed, "We take care of our own here. We don't need Huntington's help. Quite frankly, I'm not sure we need West Virginia's help. Our next step maybe statehood."
White Castle is building their first West Virginia franchise in a central location in Guyandotte. Sources report Wal-Mart has purchased property and submitted paperwork for the appropriate permits to build a Superstore.
