The issue came to national attention following a radio interview where Chick-fil-A owner, Dan Cathy, said, "...guilty as charged" when asked about his stance against gay marriage. "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage."
Since then, politicians have begun to throw their weight around to block the company from doing business in their cities. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino wrote a condemning letter to Dan Cathy and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel stated, "Chick-fil-A's values are not Chicago's values," -- the same week he welcomed Nation of Islam, and anti-Semitic leader, Louis Farrakhan to the windy city.
GLAAD Picket Organizer, Sue Clouse wrote on their group facebook page, "We will shut Chick-fil-A down -- for at least that Sunday. They will not make a dime that day, if i have anything to say about it! No one in this day and age should be allowed to run a business if they don't support gay marriage!"
Contrary to the groups stance, whenever it has been put to the ballot in 32 states, gay marriage has been rejected. [LINK]. Many famous people are against Gay Marriage; Manny Pacquiao (boxer), Brad Pitt's Mother, and many practicing homosexuals have come out against it -- for various reasons. Even President Barack Hussein Obama does (did) not believe that marriage is a civil right, and in 2004 said, "I'm a Christian, and so although I try not to have my religious beliefs dominate or determine my political views on this issue, I do believe that tradition and my religious beliefs say that marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman." Spokesman at the time, Robert Gibbs, clarified his comment by adding, "Barack Obama is opposed to gay marriage." [Scroll down for video]
Asked how he felt about President Obama's view, Sue Clouse said, "It's not the same thing. It's not like he's running a business or anything."
Already a bad week for Chick-fil-A, it was about to get real. Well, about as 'real' as Muppets can be. Jim Henson Muppets pulled out of their deal to deliver Muppet toys to all good girls and boys in Chick-fil-A Kid's Meals. When asked about the possibility of Muppets joining the Sunday picket line, Chick-Fil-A owner, Dan Cathy said he wasn't worried, "I don't think they have a leg to stand on, and I'm not so sure Kermit and Miss Piggy are speaking for themselves."
GLAAD protesters are being asked to show up to their local Chick-fil-A restaurant with signs and costumes at 6 A.M. Sunday morning to show their support.
