MORGANTOWN- Red Solo Cup made a big splash at the Greenbrier with the first of their Red Solo Cup themed Water Towers.  The unusual advertising campaign has since installed less than a dozen similar water towers on the East Coast.  Their twelfth installation will be in Morgantown, W.Va.

Tiger Woods may not want to remember his score at the 2012 Greenbrier Classic but the Red Solo Cup company will remember the event fondly.  It marked the first golf event the company has sponsored, as well as the installation of their first ever Red Solo Cup Water Tower.  Of course, Tobey Keith was invited to be the headline entertainer this year and sang his hit song, "Red Solo Cup" to a boisterous crowd sitting under the shadow of that unmistakable red cup shape.

The water tower campaign is the brainchild of Red Solo Cup Marketing Director, Tau Glazowadda.  "Capitalizing on our new-found name recognition, we are installing Water Towers in the shape Red Solo Cups in several communities across the country. Our first was at Greenbrier, West Virginia, just in time for the the Red Solo Cup-Cup and Toby Keith's Concert."

Over the summer, eleven bright red, cup-shaped towers have been installed in southern towns on the east coast.  Glazowadda explains, "We want to give back and say a big 'Thank you!' to the wonderful communities that have supported us over the years and gave us a chance to serve them.  Last Spring, we held a write-in campaign where people could nominate where they'd like to see Red Solo Cup Water Towers.  We made our picks and the Greenbier was chosen as the best place to launch our campaign. This week the WVU Campus in Morgantown, West Virginia received our twelfth tower.

Early visitors to the campus have marveled at the new water tower looming over the campus. "It's so big and red," said one freshman student.

beerguyReturning students and faculty have given mixed reviews.  Science Professor, Dusty Books says, "It's ghastly and undignified.  If they want to place one of those things on Marshall's Campus, fine.  Personally, I find it appalling."

Senior Chad Brock seemed happier about the water tower's pranking potential, "I know a dozen guys who are already plotting to fill the thing up with real beer.  Oh, man! It's gonna be epic!"

Red Solo Cup spokesman, Glazowadda had heard such talk before.  "We don't condone the tampering of our Water Towers by anyone for any reason.  However, once we donate a tower, we no longer have control or responsibility to maintain it -- tthat belongs to the community.

"Off the record, however, our Red Solo Cup Water Towers hold beer just as well as our plastic cups do."
