At the GOP Lincoln Day Dinner in Hurricane, Rease compared the smoking ban to the Depression-era National Recovery Act, which authorized President Franklin D. Roosevelt, whom Raese referred to as "General Roosevelt" and "Fidel Roosevelt," to take steps to spur economic recovery. I mean, if Reagan had proposed the smoking ban it would understandable to rail against it - but this is FDR he's attacking. Forget the latest studies that suggest Roosevelt's policies actually impeded the recovery out of the Great Depression [LINK] rather than get us through it - he's an icon! He was in Little Ophan Annie for crying out loud - in a wheelchair!! Quit picking on him you big bully!
But that's not all, Raese had the audacity to compare the goverment forcing citizens to place huge 'Non-Smoking" labels on their buildings to a time in history where another government forced citizens to wear labels. "But in Monongalia County now, I have to put a huge sticker on my buildings to say that this is a smoke-free environment. Remember Hitler used to put Star of David on everybody's lapel, remember that? Same thing."
THE NERVE! As if one government mandating citizens to label themselves can be compared to another government mandating citizens to label themselves. It's totally different, because... well, it is! Besides, the only people who are allow to use the 'Nazi' card are Democrats [LINK].
To top it all off, as many of my journalist comrads have noted, Raese is a 'WEATHLY BUSINESSMAN". What's THAT about? Who wants a person who has proven an ability to successfully manage money and people to run for a government office? Plus, as has also been pointed out, he's never won in his attempts at the US Senate. Obviously, John, the people of West Virginia have spoken. We only want entrenched politicians who can think for us and make empty promises based on a solid lack of any track record. Keep your success and desire to 'make things better' to yourself. This is West Virginia!
